Mineola real estate > About us

We are Village Properties of Mineola

(but you'd never know it - we sell throughout Nassau, Suffolk and Queens - we're known by many as Long Island Village Properties)

Village Properties of Mineola was started by David Farrell almost a decade ago.  While he had been a Licensed Auctioneer and Certified General Appraiser since the late 80s and early 90s (respectively), he had grown tired of referring business to other brokers only to have his customers complain.  The most common complaint was that the broker or agent they chose lacked scruples and seemed to be working only for themselves, not for the homeowner or home buyer.  My answer was always the same, "Remember, I told you that the person's name I was giving you was the top producer in the area, but that I wouldn't vouch for their ethics and that they should always watch their backs."  Well, when clients stopped using me for appraisals and auctions because they felt the referrals I had given them weren't good, I realized it was time to start my own brokerage.  From then on, I was able to say, "I can sell/help you buy the property, or I can give you the name of the top producer in the area.  Just remember, I am not giving them my seal of approval, I am just telling you the person or company that does the most business in a given area."  The first time I received a request to suggest a broker I ended up getting a listing and selling a house in Westbury.  The second time it was a house in East Meadow.  All of a sudden, I realized I needed to hire agents, get more space and start dedicating more time to the profession.

What followed was the purchase of one franchise, then ownership of three franchises, then much, much more than I could ever handle.  Shortly thereafter, the bubble I had warned buyers about for years finally collapsed, the time to renew my franchises came due (five years went very quickly) and I realized I had no interest in continuing to make a franchiser money while suffering through the worst downturn in almost a century.  So, things have come full circle.  We have gone from being a small shop names Station Plaza Realty, to a three office franchised operation, to a small office again. It has been a learning process, but one I could and possible should have been able to have predicted in advance. While telling my customers and clients the market was going to collapse and real estate was going to simply stop selling, I should have been even more prepared.

But, now we have a terrific office.  We are a small shop, but several of us have worked together or known one another since we graduated college over 20 years ago.  All the agents in the office were born on Long Island, and we all still make Long Island our home.  Even better, we have agents from the north shore, central Nassau, and the south shore. While we are a small shop, we have over 100 years of knowledge of Long Island combined.
